Writing with Technology
CCSS as well as AP Exam preparation require that students produce and publish writing while interacting and collaborating. Come to this session to learn about 3 different apps that allow students to improve their writing skills while implementing CCSS standards or preparing for the AP Exam. Each app will be demonstrated and go into different ways to use it in a Spanish technology-supported classroom. Please, BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). Session will be in Spanish.
Using the Field of Translation for Writing Development, and Using Writing to Develop the Skill of Translation
In this session we explore key concepts of the field of translation and how the skills necessary for translation serve writing development. We complete hands-on examples to show how teachers can use these concepts to build classroom exercises to help with writing and to give students a sense of the career of professional translation.
Visual Thinking Strategies in the Foreign Language Classroom
VTS can be a fun and fruitful tool to motivate students to engage in conversation and produce original texts as they work in a collaborative environment. Following VTS criteria, we will work on 3 different activities and set of handouts, adaptable to most levels, that will lead students to engage in narrative, poetry, and performance, while gaining proficiency in the target language. Handouts in English and Spanish. Session will be in English.

Finding My Other: Mask Activity

Explore mask making based on various world traditions and develop an activity that underlines the importance of assisting students in their pursuit of cross-cultural understanding. The objective is to make the student become aware of the complexity, creativity, and hard work put into designing and making masks. Through this activity the student can become aware of his/her identity with an ethnic group and/or culture, while appreciating diverse cultural and artistic expressions. For all levels. Session will be in Spanish.
Ideas y estrategias para trabajar la escritura en las clases de español como lengua heredada

En este taller, exploraremos las características lingüísticas de diferentes tipos de textos (resumen, narración, análisis). A partir de esos ejemplos, mostraremos actividades que hagan reflexionar al estudiante sobre el uso de la lengua con el propósito de que distinga la variación dentro del continuo de registros (registros formales e informales y registros orales y escritos).
